No progress indication on CD validation check.

When using the Ubuntu Desktop CD, there is an option to validate the media to make sure the files are all correct. This process has no progress indication, and it is unclear of when it finishes. Perhaps the progress bar that is used in the bootup process could be used in this situation?

It uses usplash for progress and that works nicely in all machines I have tested. Are you seeing the list of files that are checked, and is usplash otherwise working properly for you?

Yes, I see the list of files, and that all works as normal. But as a usability improvement, it would be nice to see the overall progress of the operation.

If you look beneath the Ubuntu logo, do you see a dark brown box slowly filling up as the check proceeds?

No, the progress bar has been there the whole time. Could you take a picture of the screen (using a digital camera or phone camera) while it's checking and attach the image to this bug?

Alright, I wrote this bug down on paper during my last install, and I misread it.

The progress bar does show, but it shows the progress of individual files. It would be much more beneficial to show the progress of the entire CD checking process. Is this possible?

If it's jumping back and forth again, I think that's a usplash bug since it does show the full progress for me (and is supposed to do that).

I've confirmed that the progress indicator isn't working properly for me with the current edgy daily (20060920). It switches between the two progress modes (incrementing and decrementing), i.e. the "filled" and "unfilled" portions of the progress bar are reversed, which I believe means the percentage must be oscillating between negative and positive values. It also goes through this cycle for each file, so progress indication for the overall operation is missing.
