Bug Description

Release: 16.04

Package: casper
Version: 1.376

what should happen: the live system should boot properly
what happens: the live system drops into busybox

i created a systemimage of kubuntu 16.04 with "systemback"
the live system boots into busybox and displays the following message:

"(initramfs) /cow format specified as aufs and no support found"

i had this problem before on kubuntu 14.04.03

it seems that downgrading to casper 1.340 resolves this problem (but downgrading on 16.04 is problematic / not possible)

the current installed version of casper is 1.376

ok... i just found out that installing "unionfs-fuse"

Package: unionfs-fuse
Version: 1.0-1ubuntu1

changes a lot..

i still drop into a busybox but with different messages...

/init: line 7: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found

and

Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs

here is an image of the sceen:

i found out that installing unionfs-fuse works as a solution for this problem
(a retry with another flashdrive got the system to boot properly)

BUT fuse is not really a solution since overlayfs or aufs are faster..

the problem narrows down to one question

"why is overlayfs or aufs not available at boot time on the live system?"

i tried with an additional kernel parameter UNIONFS=overlay and immediately drop to a busybox again..

both modules can be loaded when the live system is running so the problem probably resides in the initramdisk?

adding

"overlayfs"

to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules

and executing

update-initramfs -u

before creating the remastered image solves this problem..
