english keyboard layout unavailable on LiveCD, when russian language has been chosen during bootup

Present in both Feisty and Gutsy (tribes and daily):

After I choose russian as my system language in the boot menu (by pressing F2), the LiveCD desktop starts with russian keyboard layout only. There's no way to switch the layout to english, only by entering the keyboard preferences to add the english layout (and ALT+SHIFT switching behaviour as well).

Of course, after Ubiquity is started, the english layout appears automatically, but before that, it's non available by default. Pretty annoying issue (didn't manage to find a duplicate).

I can confirm this bug. The English layout should standard be present in the keyboard preferences window.

I have done a sligthly broader testing by choosing various languages in the boot menu.

The default keyboard layout is always international-only, and english layout is unavailable. To enable english layout, I either have to:

1. Manually add the english layout in System->Preferences->Keyboard
2. Run the installer, pass the keyboard configuration stage, after that English layout becomes available.

This is a rather annoying issue, since I cannot even type an URL in Firefox, when running from a livecd (latin characters unavailable). I'd also like to suggest this bug be renamed to e.g. "english keyboard layout unavailable in the international LiveCD environments"

Changing source package to xorg, as the issue seems related to dexconf found in x11-common.

Yes, that's still an issue with Hardy.

Not a bug in xorg, since it only does what it's asked to do. The livecd session maybe could have other layouts available, but I'll let others decide.
