Bug Description

Binary package hint: casper

Casper seems to time out after a few attempts to read the CD-ROM
while looking for a driver update source. I would like to request that
this does not automatically time out, rather waits for either a user
interrupt, or continues until a valid source is read.

(cjwatson said:)
I think maybe after saying "Could not find driver updates; re-insert install CD and press ENTER" it should go back to the start rather than exiting. Seems like a reasonable request.

I observed this with the Kubuntu 20070626.1 live CD. I didn't wait long enough for a timeout (sorry) but on a second attempt the liveCD started as normal. Not sure if that's useful or not.

I experienced this again this morning with Kubuntu 20070627.liveCD but launchpad was down so I couldn't report it. On this occasion I saw some further messages about 'ipw3945 could not read microcode'

I have since been unable to reproduce the bug so I can't get the full text of the error messages. This suggests that the problem is related to the ipw3945 wireless card in this machine. The liveCD gives no problems on a different machine which has no wireless card. This is a Lenovo N100 laptop.

Richard, are you using the driver updates mode? (You'll know if you are.) If not, please file a separate bug.

Colin, that must mean I'm not using driver updates then. Re-filed as bug 122535
