Bug Description

When changing the BQ Aquaris 4.5 camera settings, to save pictures on an SD memory card no foto is saved on this device. The audio signal of the camera leds to the assumption that a foto has been made, but the file is not saved on SD card, nor internal phone memory.

@michael
Is this still an issue for you? Can you please do the following things to provide us with more information:
1) attach camera-app log file (found on phone in ~/.cache/upstart/application-click.com.ubuntu.camera_<version>.log
2) does your SD card have available space on it?
3) are you sure your SD is formatted correctly and can be written to?

Thanks for reporting this issue

@Bill, thanks, I just checked it again. The bug is still existing.

I use the SD card on my device for videos and mp3 files. So the card should be ok. The file you have mentioned does not exist on my device. I attache a log file which sounds at least similar...

Hi Michael,
there should be a log named like /home/phablet/.cache/upstart/application-click-com.ubuntu.camera_camera_<VERSION>.log where <VERSION> is the version number you have installed (latest is 605 I believe). If you could check again that log would be helpful.

Also, would be good to test if you can create files on your SD card, as perhaps it's read-only or corrupt in some way. Please try this after opening a shell on your device:
> df -kh

You should see SD card mounted as /media/phablet/<ID>

>cd /media/phablet/<ID>
>ls
You should see a Pictures directory
>cd Pictures
>ls
You should see a com.ubuntu.camera directory
>cd com.ubuntu.camera
Now try to create a file
>touch foo.txt
see if error reported
if not, do
>ls -lc foo.txt
and report the results

Hi Bill

I tried to create in /media/phablet/701E-57CS/Pictures/

cat > foo.txt

results in: foo.txt: Input/ Output error

Afterwards

>ls -lc foo.txt

results in: No such file or directory

I also searched /home/phablet/.cache/upstart/application-click-com.ubuntu.camera_camera_<VERSION>.log, but negative. At least I confirm that I update my device regular and therefor the camera app should be the most recent release.

P.S.: A 'pictures' directory is availble on my SD card (also a download, music folder etc), but no sub directory 'com.ubuntu.camera'. By the way, I can see the folders on the sd card in the pre-installed "file-manager app" (German: Dateiverwaltung) only, when I enter my "sudo" password.

Michael, you said you tried "cat > foo.txt", but can you please try to "touch foo.txt" as Bill originally requested ?

If that comment still gives you an I/O error, is there any chance you can try with a different SD card, or try creating a file on the SD card from your computer ?

I/O errors suggest some kind of corruption in the file system on the card, or possibly even the card itself being damaged.

Sorry, touch was overlooked by me. If I try to create "touch foo.txt", it gives me the following message:

bash: touch: permission denied

I will try within the next few days another SD card.

Tried to the same with another SD card with negative result. Camera app does not save pictures on such a card. Same to creating a file "touch foo.txt".

What does it say when you try to do "touch foo.txt" after doing a "cd" into
the mounted card ?

Ugo, it gives me also a I/O error input/ output error. I cannot create such a file on SD card. Also the directory "com.ubuntu.camera" does not exist. The basic directory tree like "Pictures, Music etc." is available...

P.S.: What I have noted: When choosing SD in the camera app, it looks like the camera makes a picture, including virtual camera sound. But the picture is a mentioned not saved to any location and after that I cannot make another foto. The button of the camera app is without function.
