Bug Description

[Impact]

While we were able to address many bugs in the last update (see bug 1980180 for additional information), a new point release has been published in the meantime, including the following fixes (summarized from https://calamares.io/calamares-3.2.61-is-out/ ):

 - The "About" and "Debug" buttons were not translated
 - Python compatibility fixes
 - Locale location fixes included, fixing a noticeable user regression
 - Translation updates

Calamares is not installed by default on the system, and only exists on the live image for Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio, the release managers of which are in support of this update.

Given that 22.04.1 was just recently released, getting this update through now results in more potential testing time on the Jammy dailies, for both flavors in question.

[Test Case]

We have a thorough update suite used for Lubuntu, available here and in subpages: https://phab.lubuntu.me/w/testing/

The short of the test case is, we will attempt to install Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio using a variety of installation methods. Since this was thoroughly completed in the past (and we have a baseline "known working" up to 3.2.60), any failure in the documented testing process is likely to reveal a regression.

[Regression Potential]

Given that this is marked as an LTS series upstream, we are not the only Linux distribution to use this installer, and it has been tested in a wide variety of environments, it is unlikely that a regression will present itself. If one did present itself, it could be in the following areas:
 - Locale generation could break entirely if the code changes were not done correctly
 - Python compatibility fixes could break if Ubuntu's Python is drastically different than Python shipped in other Linux distributions
 - Given that this upstream update was tested on a current Linux base, it would not be surprising to see an incompatibility-related regression

That all being said, the chances of any regression are unlikely.

Hello Simon, or anyone else affected,

Accepted calamares into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/3.2.61-0ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Hello Timo, and the Ubuntu SRU Team,

Thank you for accepting this upload into the proposed pocket. We have cleared the Lubuntu testing checklist, and ensured Jammy dailies are being rebuilt for flavors, in order to test this properly.

Upon successful completion of the Lubuntu checklist and ISO QA tests for Ubuntu Studio, this bug will be changed to verification-done-jammy. Although landing this update is a priority for us, please be patient, as we value thorough, "check every box" testing over quick testing for such an impactful SRU.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to myself, Erich, and/or the Lubuntu Council if you have any questions.

On behalf of the Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio Teams, thank you.

All install tests on the Lubuntu testing checklist are now completed.

Refer https://phab.lubuntu.me/w/release-team/testing-checklist/ which lists all install tests done, test date (local date of tester), ISO used in test, tester, box the test was done on (you'll note it was many boxes) & more.

(all testing is recorded on the iso.qa tracker too, eg. last group can be found here - http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/429/builds/262231/testcases/1701/results)

Calamares used in testing was 3.2.61-0ubuntu0.1

If there are any issues, please let me know.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for calamares has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.

This bug was fixed in the package calamares - 3.2.61-0ubuntu0.1

---------------
calamares (3.2.61-0ubuntu0.1) jammy; urgency=medium

  * Update Calamares to 3.2.61 LTS (LP: #1992507):
    - The "About" and "Debug" buttons in a QWidgets-based panel were no longer
translated. This has been fixed (by re-using translations of the same
      buttons from the QML module.
    - bootloader - Python code slipped in that was incompatible with the
      minimum required Python version.
    - locale fixes a large regression introduced with 3.2.60, where the
location picked for many locales was not the same as in 3.2.59, and
generally peculiar (e.g. picking "English" led to "en_AG" which is
nice if you are in Bermuda, but not expected in the rest of the world).
    - luksopenswaphookcfg - Remove duplicate options.
    - Various updates to translations.
  * Fix the watch file.
