Desktop icons strangely arranged on secondary monitor

Once I added a second monitor to my laptop, the icons appear to be arranged strangely.

I would like to add, that it seems that the area that the icons display on the secondary monitor, is the same area as the size of the primary screen. I just witnessed a notification which normally appears normally on the primary screen if the only screen was the primary one, but the notification appeard one third down on the right side of the secondary monitor.
