Bug Description
If you didn't already knew, I specialize in exotic bugs. And this further proves my theory.
Using 20.04.2-latest and working with /usr/bin/caja, ~/Pictures sometimes (and very intermittantly) forgets how to presents itself.
One of the very first thing that I do on TTY7 after installation is /usr/bin/caja: edit -> preferences -> view new folders using: list view -> close.
But since I am unique, I change the ~/Pictures view mode to "Icon view" (click on ~/Pictures -> top bar -> drop down list -> select Icon view.)
And this looks like picture #1. So then all is well.
But sometimes, maybe once every 3 times, when I select a mounted NFS point that sits right below the Pictures entry as we can still see from picture #1 and then click back on ~/Pictures, then I get to see the following wickedness in picture #2.
Another exotic point to mention is that I use 2x screens in portrait mode (but I think this is irevelant)

PS: Interestingly enough, I have accesses several other folders from my local system and after 20x different tries, ~/Pictures always listed fine. NFS mounts is what really seems to be the cause of this.
