Bug Description

Previous versions of Caja allowed the use of middle clicking a bookmark to open a new tab at that bookmark. This functionality is missing from Caja 1.20 in Ubuntu MATE 18.04. I don't know whether this is a bug, a 'feature' or 'enhancement'.

I'm running 1.20.2 - and for me it doesn't work. And that is common over
3 different computers.  Strange.

By middle button, did you mean the "scrolling wheel" of the mouse? It does work on my machine. I've looked at the code, the option is there; it should work.

I'd say you consult in the community website first; after hearing what folks there have to say, if it's necessary, open an issue on the GitHub repo of Caja: https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja

Abu Sakib,

Are you selecting from a Caja Bookmark, or the Places menu in the top
panel?  I have now tried this in Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Mint 19, and
Caja 1.20.2 does NOT open from a Caja bookmark middle click (mouse
wheel) on either system.  It did function this way on Ubuntu 16.04 .

There is list of the "Bookmarks" at the "Places" sidebar which is in the left side of Caja. I'm opening from there.

I am opening from the menu bar item in Caja called Bookmarks.

I have now tried this on 3 different distros and I am getting the same
result.  It does not open a new tab.  Any ideas?

Okay, I think I figured out part of the problem.

I can confirm that this behavior does not work, however, if you middle click on the "Bookmarks" menu then use the middle click to select a specific bookmark entry, it works. Does that match your experience? Can you try it?

I think I remember a commit where we change some of the click behavior. This bug must have been introduced then... I'll try to bisect the commits, but I think it was a long time ago.

So, as a workaround for the time being, whenever you intend on opening a bookmark in a new tab, you should also middle click on the menu bar entry for "Bookmarks".

You are absolutely correct.  If I double-click on the menu Bookmarks, I
can then open the tab as before with a single click on the bookmark
name.  This works on Ubuntu 18.04 MATE.

However, on Linux Mint 19 MATE, it is necessary to double-click on both
'Bookmarks" and the actual bookmark name too in order to open a new
tab.  I'm not sure if this helps you track down the offending commit.

Ah, the double-click thing works too - nice! I might be able to figure out where in the code this happens. Thanks!
