Bug Description

The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding caffeine. This problem was most recently seen with package version 2.8.3-3build1, the problem page at https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/2164064119546a239a4ba7a782aa9d904f6355e5 contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or traceback, and individual crash reports.

Starting caffeine via the commandline produces the same error.

Right, it's because you're running wayland and the file .Xauthority does not exists. Either caffeine has to be fixed to run under wayland or you can swtich to an xorg session.
