byzanz-record (gif screen recording) does not work in wayland

Bug Description
Using 18.04, when wayland is selected for the session, byzanz-record doesn't work. It always errors:
> byzanz-record -c -d 8 -x 10 -y 10 -w 200 -h 150 /tmp/test.gif
Given area is not inside desktop.
I've tried making sure I'm on the top-left workspace, I've tried various sizes / dimensions for the recording.
It's a bummer that all my favorite tools for screen capture (e.g. see also shutter, https:/
byzanz is still available via the package manager, so I assume it's supposed to work:
