Bug Description

Hi.
I don't know if it is a bug. My computer does strange things lately, as shuting down Firefox or act as somebody was manipulating Libre Office putting the cursor on top when i'm reading the bottom.
Also when I push @ the text before is been erased, not always but often.
I run tests with rkhunter and it seems that everything is o.k.
Today when I started the computer a warning pop's up and here I am trying to explain the problem.
Thank you for the atention.
Have a nice day.

Mari Carmen

Hi Mari,
the issue that was detected by your Ubuntu system is not related to the awkward things you describe happening to you.

Before checking out the details of the issue a little story.
I have seen issues similar to your cursor moving issues.
In one case people tend to lean on touchpads when writing on laptops - if that might be the case look at [1].
In another case the keyboard had a hanging ctrl key, so inputs where actually sometimes modified and e.g. ALT+F4 vs F4 is qiute a difference.
In the last case I must admit we plugged an extra wireless usb keyboard/mouse to a coworkers computer to annoy him.
So make sure no one is trying to tease you :-)

Now getting to the bug in basd-mailx reported here.
That actually is an issue on configuring/upgrading postfix, from your log:

newaliases: warning: valid_hostname: misplaced delimiter: orgonangel..name
newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter myhostname: bad parameter value: orgonangel..name

Check out the definition of valid hostnames [2] and fix up your config in "/etc/postfix/main.cf" then the update should succeed.

Also good luck with your input issues.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting the service will work.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Changed in bsd-mailx (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
