After installing Ubuntu 12.04 and the drivers for my MFC-7420, I had the same symptoms as described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brother-cups-wrapper-laser/+bug/914150
I then went to http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_prn.html#MFC-7420, downloaded the LPR and the cupswrapper .deb packages and installed them with
dpkg -i --force-all brmfc7420lpr-2.0.1-1.i386.deb cupswrapperMFC7420-2.0.1-2.i386.deb
After that, printing worked.
This is strange, as I believe that Ubuntu ships the exact same packages, but somehow installing the original packages appears to have fixed the problem. |
