How do you type them? From the PC keyboard or from the braille device?

Do they appear correctly on the screen or is that bogus there as well?

If you are typing from the PC keyboard and things are bogus on the
screen itself, then this bug is not related to brltty.

I am typing with PC keyboard.
Characters are well displayed on the screen (for example in file names), but when I try to type them, they just do not appear.

i.e. they do not appear on the screen? In that case the bug doesn't have
to do with brltty. Do you have kbd or console-tools installed?

Now in Kubuntu 8.10 the only character that is not printable/typeable in tty is 'é', note that É or the rest of vocals with accent are now working fine.
I have kbd installed, but not console-tools, installation of console-tools would uninstall kbd and ubuntu-minimal packages.

Ok, this really is a kbd issue then and should be reassigned accordingly. You should probably provide the output of dumpkeys.
