Bug Description

I have installed Ubuntu MATE 18.04 and changed the Panel layout in MATE Tweak to "Pantheon". Whenever I start a new session I get the following error message: "The panel encountered a problem while loading "BriskMenuFactory::BriskMenu".

The only workaround I have found is to change the layout to "Traditional" and then back to "Pantheon" which is quite annoying.

The problem is still there in my system. Is there anything I can provide to get it solved?
The fact that you cannot reproduce it does not mean that the problem does not exist at all...

In the error dialog I get asked "Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?". When I press one of the buttons ("Don't Delete" or "Delete") nothing happens.

The workaround to change the layout does not work anymore. I have to logout and login again. So it seems this happens only after a reboot or when the computer was switched off before.

I can confirm this issue on my 18.04 system as well. Logout/login as well as "reset panel" option in the panel right click menu restore the Brisk menu, and the issue does not recur on subsequent logins after logging out. It only happens on login after first boot. Happy to provide additional system information as needed.

Performed a fresh v16.04 install today. Then upgraded to v18.04 via do-release-upgrade. Immediately upon logging in with a desktop accont I encountered this problem as well. This is with a new (As in "not previously used", absolutely no configurations to inherit.) account so not making any layout tweaks.

Same problem on 18.04.01 installed on 9/13/2018. Still only happens on initial login. Logout/login fixes issue and does not re-occur until next reboot.

I'm having this exact same problem, every time I reboot and login. Opening up a terminal window and issuing "killall mate-panel" solves it, but is obviously an irritant. I can reproduce this reliably. Are there logs I can lookup, or something else I can provide to help?

Is there any chance of this being looked at? I've had this same error for a year and across release upgrades.

Just had this on a fresh install (via debootstrap) as well. It looks like installing ubuntu-mate-core results in a default config with the brisk menu, but that isn't listed as dependency of the package. Works fine for me after installing the mate-applet-brisk-menu package.

Same problem on Ubuntu 20.04.3 fresh install. I just change the panels with Mate Tweak to redmond, and it solved the problem.

Issue not fixed in 0.6.2-1ubuntu0 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brisk-menu/+bug/1757072/comments/16):

I could reproduce this bug in Ubuntu MATE 22.04 by repeatedly executing this command (even with a few seconds in between): dconf reset -f /

As pointed out, as a temporary workaround, the BriskMenu comes back if you log out and login again.

Package: mate-applet-brisk-menu
Architecture: amd64
Version: 0.6.2-1ubuntu0

Still happens in Ubuntu 23.10. I get the Brisk Menu error at bootup and I managed to get rid of the problem before reading this report logging off and in again.
At first I simply tried to solve removing Brisk Menu from the panel and activating it again, or removing Brisk Menu from the panel, logging off and on and then activating it again but the problem persists after a reboot.
