Brasero lists maximum burn speed as only option

Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

When burning to CD, Brasero lists the maximum speed of my CD burner (16x) as the only option available for burning. Yet I know for a fact that my burner also supports speeds of 8x and 4x. For example, if I download the Ubuntu 11.04 ISO while using MS Windows, I can use CDBurnerXP to burn the ISO at 8x or 4x speed. But I can't do this using Brasero.

I have dual boot set up on my computer for Ubuntu 10.04 and WinXP. Using the GPLv3 Windows program "InfraRecorder" I am able to burn a CD at the following speeds: 16x, 8x, 4x, 2x, 1x.

Using the same CD tray when booted into Ubuntu, Brasero only offers 16x burning speed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Changed in brasero (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

You want me to try to reproduce the problem using Oneiric Ocelot Alpha 2? And then report back the result here?

Were you able to reproduce the problem on your computer? Is it specific to my computer?

The computer I'm using cannot read DVD-R. And I have not been able to get it to successfully boot from USB. Alpha 2 warns the image is more than CD size. So I have a problem fulfilling this test on my computer. I can test it on another computer at my work though. Should I do that?
