Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I burned and blanked DVD-RW's previously in jaunty. Everything worked perfectly.

Since then I did a completely new install of ubuntu (namely Karmic). In Karmic, I'm not able to blank a DVD-RW. Once I try to perform a blank (of a written dvd-rw), Brasero shows the following message:

***
Unable to mount blank optical disc

Dbus error
org.gtk.private.remotevolumemonitor.notfound: the given volume was not found
***

After some time however, Brasero says blanking has been completed. However, it has made the DVD-RW useless. Karmic is not able to detect it as a blank dvd-rw. In order to fix the issue I have to resort to Windows where I again erase the DVD-RW. After that Windows detects the dvd-rw as a blank and I can write stuff to it. Returning to Ubuntu, such a written dvd-rw is again recognized.

I have a similar problem when blanking dvd-rw on my thinkpad r500. Have you tried changing the sata setting in the bios to compatibility mode? I can blank and burn dvd in compatibility mode but is still get some dbus errors.

Ok it seems a update installed some time between Sunday night and when I posted #3 mostly fixed beta 1. I can now insert a used or new dvd-rw and brasero will blank and burn it but after finalising the disk (dvd or cd) it gives me a message that reads,
"Please eject the disc from "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N" manually.
The disc could not be ejected though it needs to be removed for the current operation to continue."

I can eject the disk using Alt-F2 "eject" or the button on the drive, inserting the disk again does not remove the message but pressing the cancel button that's on the massage does and I get the attached log and the disk seems usable.

I will test later this week with different media (dvd-r, dvd-rw and dvd+rw) to see if it was just a fluke and check if other drives correctly read the disks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of brasero is available in both Lucid and Maverick and we are wondering if this is still reproducible in any of those versions, May you please test and give us of feedback about it? Thanks in advance.
