I can also confirm that un-installing Brasero and installing GnomeBaker makes it possible to burn DVDs anyway, as suggested here: http://edtake.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/ubuntu-lucid-lynx-dvd-writer-not-detected/

However, the error messages persist......
