can't back up or copy DVDs

Binary package hint: brasero

Can't make an image file or copy DVD's. It gets about 5-10% done then says this:

BraseroDvdcss called brasero_job_error
BraseroDvdcss finished with an error
BraseroDvdcss asked to stop because of an error
 error = 1
 message = "Error reading video DVD (read error)"
BraseroDvdcss stopping
Session error : Error reading video DVD (read error) (brasero_burn_record burn.c:2524)

Did this under 8.04 and now 8.10. I currently have Brasero 0.8.2 installed. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to make copies of some DVD's before my child destroys another.

Could you please try the same with brasero 0.9 from backports or from jaunty? thanks in advance.

I found a link but don't know how to install it once I download and
extract it. Is it through the shell only? can it be done through a
package manager? Thats much easier.
