Bug Description

Description:
As the system configured with H-L optical disc writer to create an DVD.iso image from the source, the md5 checksum of the image is different from the source.
However, by burning the image to the disc and verify the md5sum, the checksum is the same as the source disc again.

Further verification: By installing another burining application called "K3B" does not have this issue occurred.

Steps to replicate:
1. Ensure the system is installed with Ubuntu 9.04 (Dell-reinstall) and configured with H-L (Hitachi-LG) optical disc writer.
2. Insert a data DVD into the optical drive and launch the Brasero application.
3. Create an .iso image of the disc.
4. As finished, execute the command "md5sum XXX.iso" under the Terminal. (where XXX is the name of the .iso image)
5. Again, execute the command "md5sum /dev/cdrom" under the Terminal.
6. Observe the md5 checksum reported from both. (i.e. - Both checksums are different)

System Architecture: i686
Kernel version: 2.6.28-11-generic

Another good way of testing it would be to verify md5 sums of all files to see if they have changed or is there a problem with something else.

Hi Krzysztof,

There is no error reported after the disc burning.
Besides, the file content of the disc is fine.
Just that the md5 checksum of the .iso image created is different from the source. However, by burning the image to another disc, the md5 checksum is the same with the source again.

Another disc burning application from KDE called K3B is also downloaded and give a try on this. Both md5 checksum of the image created and the source are the same.

Please look at bug #354995

There are several reports on DVDs showing errors.
Some of them appear to be okay, while others appear to be corrupted.

Integrity error burning for some months in the prints made by Brasero.

Its been about me that I see an image by burning Ubuntu and checking his MD5SUM was corrupt. I had put her on the back of my drive that had aged, because I had to reinstall but the problem was still present.

Today I completely change the PC and reinstall all the system is the problem recurs. The thing is that I fall on the same exact same ISO MD5SUM for a German user here: ... http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/64bit erst-zu / 2 /

ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64.iso downloaded http://ubuntu.virginmedia.com/releasktop-amd64.iso
Official MD5SUM: 62fb5d750c30a27a26d01c5f3d8df459
MD5SUM Obtained with Brasero 8550312216c29a83a2713f8dc36c0935

So I wanted test if it was more serious or Brasero. With the K3B no problem.
