Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

Hi,
      bug regarding Brasero.

I choose to make an Audio CD. Browse my mp3, select a set of them, drag & drop them into the right frame in order to import them.

Brasero start to load them correctly, but sometimes it hangs forever in a state where some mp3s have been loaded and others not.

I've noticed one interesting thing though, in the .xsession-errors file, perhaps it can be related:

(brasero:5849): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_range_set_range: assertion `min < max' failed

This bug happens quite often, if you need some help to debug it let me know!

Distro is Hardy up-to-date as of now.

Hello Pedro,
in the wiki page you gave me it is described how to produce a trace in the
event of program crash.

In my situation brasero don't crash, but hangs.

How can I obtain a trace in this scenario?

Thanks Pedro,
but the problem is that these wiki pages talk about program crash:

The program will continue running. Perform any actions necessary to
reproduce the crash
In my case brasero doesn't crash, but hangs with the window open but no
progress is made. I have to kill it and launch it again.

I too suffer from same issue, brasero hangs while trying to burn audio-cd from mp3 files
backtrace included.

Not sure if problem would occur after reboot since
uptime
 22:43:16 up 4 days, 2:39, 2 users, load average: 0.72, 0.60, 0.64
But that shouldn't affect?

Tried reinstalling brasero, tried removing it's config file ~/.config/brasero/
No help. Leaving bug invalid for you to decide if it's worth looking.

Sorry i gave wrong information, Brasero hangs when opening new audioCD project and trying

Just tested, if it is related to filenames, containing: date spaces etc.
No effect, hangs occur every time.

It's easy to reproduce this bug, just try adding many MP3 files by double-clicking on the
file manager window. If you do this fast, it always crashes brasero.

Can some one please confirm it is even possible with brasero as it is released with intrepid to burn an audio-cd. Adding mp3 files takes _FOREVER_. Sometimes, after a minute or someting it finally adds the file, sometimes it never adds the file and just hangs forever.

I have a intel quad core, with 2 gb of rams. It shouldn't take a minute to add an mp3 file. Something is wrong.

@Ralf I havent had any luck, but not going to do fresh install just to test this one.

Thanks for commandline which can be used as well,
Something like

for convertion to .wav
for a in *.mp3 ; do mpg123 -w "$a.wav" "$a" ; done
Don't mind the double extensions ;)

And for burning to a disk
wodim -v -eject -pad -dao speed=12 dev=/dev/scd0 defpregap=0 -audio *.wav

So device works, it's just brasero that hangs
Going to test other apps, k3b and gnomebaker...

Hi, I've found a test case that makes brasero hang in a repetable way.

It is enough to perform the following steps:

1) open brasero
2) click on audio CD
3) go to a place where you have some mp3 files
4) select the first
5) holding shift, select the last

That sequence makes brasero hang. See the attached screenshot.

I've taken some system measurements after the hang and I can say that no
hardware resource is busy - i.e. no CPU, memory or IO activity. Brasero just
hangs indefinitely (after several minutes I killed it)

Pedro, let me know what are your thoughts.

I finally managed to know how to produce it (sorry for being late), now I've produced one for the first time but there are not debugging symbols.

I'm going to install them as per wiki, then I'll post it here.

Good news is that now I can reproduce the problem.

If so, this is not the solution, we are leaving all Intrepid users with the

How do I update my release? I still have this problem in my release, and it isn't in the updates from the repository.

Hi I'm new to Linux, I have the 8.10 version. I've never been able to burn an audio mp3 with my brasero, it just says hanging when I try to add files. sometimes at the first file, sometimes at the 8th or 15th. can someone please create here a link where I can download a fix? I'd love to play some music of choice while driving in my car... thanks!

Hi, I don't pretend to solve the brasero problem I wouldn't know where to begin. I gave up on mine and instead I installed K3B which works fine for me.

Have you already tried the version of Brasero in backports repository?

To activate backports do the following:
-> open "Synaptic Packet Manager" in System->Administration
-> Click on "Settings", then on "Repositories"
-> Choose "Updates" tab and then check "unsupported updates (intrepid-backports)"

Now use update manager to download software updates and the newer version of Brasero.
