This is happening for me too, trying to burn an iso image to a blank CD-R. Output from Brasero -d:
(brasero:30369): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

The UI says there is no space available.
It is version 0.7.1-3ubuntu1 in Hardy.

Serpentine works flawlessly on the same CD.
