Bug Description

Binary package hint: boinc

I did do one strange thing. I re-installed Natty several hours ago and before removing my previous installing I had backed up /usr/shar/boinc-client (whatever folder has the usage data in it) and after re-installing I attempted replace that folder so that I wouldn't lose any of the work units. The efforts seemed to have failed and I apt-get purge boinc* ... then I once again installed boinc... it had been running for a few hours.

At the time of the crash I was streaming a video over samba, had boinc running, chromium and pidgin... I think that was all... using vlc for the video.

I'm not an expert but I hope that helps!

The error is "userdel: user boinc is currently logged in" and it would still cause the postremoval script to fail.

The "crash" happened when you purged boinc, not during its execution later on.

If it works now for you, everything is good.

However the bug is:
This means that the process was still running when the script tried to remove the user.

http://wiki.debian.org/AccountHandlingInMaintainerScripts discusses if a system user should get deleted after all.

Anyway, the server process should have been stopped anyway.

See bug #387945 about this issue in couchdb.
