Bug Description

Hi all,
 Upstream has released 6.2.15 which debian has packaged as 6.2.18-1

The changelog in debian

 boinc (6.2.18-1) experimental; urgency=low

   [ Frank S. Thomas ]
   * New upstream release.
   * debian/control:
     - Updated Vcs-* fields since we are now using Git.
     - wxWidgets 2.8 is now in unstable, so upgraded the build-dependency from
       libwxgtk2.6-dev to libwxgtk2.8-dev. (closes: #461581) Also let boinc-dbg
       suggest libwxgtk2.8-dbg instead of libwxgtk2.6-dbg.
   * Removed compatibility symlinks for boinc_client and boinc_cmd.
   * debian/rules:
     - Switched to debhelper V7 (from V5) to minimize rules file. Updated
       build-dependency and compatibility level accordingly.
     - Regenerate the binary message catalogs for the BOINC Manager from the po
       files in locale/client/.
   * debian/boinc-client.init: Cosmetic changes of the status action output.

Nonsense! Upstream released 6.2.18 which has been uploaded to Debian as
6.2.18-1.

The latest released Linux version is 6.2.15 as can be seen here:

Anything later than that has to be pre-release and *should not* be used!

BTW, there *is* a released 6.2.18 for Mac and Windows. If changes are made that do not affect a platform, they do not release a new version for that platform. They just sync the numbering up next time they have a reason to release. (At least, I think that's the way it works.)

However, as the 6.2 series is only couple of months old, it seems prudent to update to the latest bug fix release. In fact, I came here to request just that.

From what I can see, as of today, the latest in Debian unstable is 6.2.14. So they are one release behind.

I tested the boinc-manager 6.2.18-1 i386 package from Debian on intrepid alpha6, the project list in "attach to project" window was not readable.

I'm guessing that someone grabbed the "latest" source from the BOINC site and packaged the binary from that. 6.2.16+ only had changes to fix problems with the Windows version, and maybe OSX. The binary you get when you compile that for Linux is completely untested. Not alpha, not beta, not at all. If they introduced problems for other platforms, those won't get fixed until the next time they make a new Linux release.

The squeezed project list in "attach to project" window is a problem when building the ManagerGUI with WxWidgets 2.8.8.

On intrepid building or linking the ManagerGUI works only with the wxWidgets 2.6 packages. I have tested it with 6.2.18 to 6.2.23 and several wx builds.

It is an upstream issue, they should work on their code.

The WxWidgets bug is something different and should get tracked separately, if Ubuntu is affected currently by it.
