Bug Description

I am trying to browse files on the phone and it does not work. If I try to browse, go to bluetooth icon on system tray area phone name (it was previously added to bluetooth devices) -> browse files. Then the phone askes if I want to allow FTP request, I select YES, and then the phone is mounted in Nautilus. Trying to click the phone showes an error. I have repeated these steps and in a few seconds the phone dissapears from Nautilus by itself, maybe that's is why the error occurs. it's not there anymore.

Sending files works (bluetooth icon->phone name->send files).

This bug is similar to what I have on 11.10 ARM release.

On Onieric (freshly dist-upgraded), I have the following behavior:
* I can pair my Panda board with my Mobile Phone
* I can send files from my Panda to my Mobile Phone

Then the issues I have noticed:
1- unable to browse files on device:
Trying to browse files on remote device does not work, the connection seems to be ok at the beginning, then nothing happen. Apparently we have following error trace in syslog:
obex-data-server: sdp_extract_seqtype: Unexpected end of packet

2- Unable to send files from my Mobile Phone:
When I try to send file from my Mobile Phone, I am not able to see the Panda. I know that on Maverick I absolutely need to enable some options in "receive Files" menu, but I cannot find any equivalent menu now.

I tried then the same kernel and BT FW on top of Maverick. BT is working like a charm on Maverick with same BT delivery:
* I am able to browse with my Panda the files from my Mobile Phone via BT.
* I am also able to setup the "Receive Files" options in a way to be able to send files from my Mobile Phone to the Panda. If not playing with BT "Receive Files" options, I can't see my Panda from my Mobile Phone.

For me the bluetooth-applet seems completely broken at Oneiric.

Tested with both Panda and at my Desktop, both running Oneiric:
1 - Had initially a bt mouse connected at my system;
2 - Paired successfully with 3 different cell phones (nexus S, galaxy S and N900);
3 - Mouse stopped working;
4 - Just one cell phone showed at the device list, when clicking at the bluetooth icon;
5 - The interface at the 'browse files on device' seems to be broken, as even when you have a device there, you can't even read the descriptions (just a line instead of the full box) -> http://people.canonical.com/~rsalveti/bt-browse-oneiric.jpg
6 - Clicking on 'browse files' then gives a seg fault (http://paste.ubuntu.com/763440/);
(bluetooth-applet:4194): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)' in cast to `BluetoothChooser'
(bluetooth-applet:4194): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance of invalid non-instantiatable type `(null)'

In other words, it's all broken for me.

Changed in bluez (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High

It affects me too on ubuntu. But on kubuntu oneiric it works almost perfectly (apart from wrong timeouts in bluez that cause issues on Dell systems). So it is not a problem of bluez. It is a problem of integration between bluez and the rest of the (gnome/unity) system.

BTW, the duplicate status seems strange (at least the bug titles do not seem similar at all).

872044 is about the PC trying to send files to the phone and failing. Possibly, the bug is also about the phone trying to send files to the PC and receiving a 'service not supported' error.

This bug is about the PC trying to browse files on the phone and nothing happening on the PC: the file manager window is not opened and no error message is delivered.
