Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-utils

I have found that the bluetooth connection wizard in 8.10 will attempt to send a random pin to a device that is not configured to enter a pin. This behavior is found across the line of bluetooth development tools from SparkFun and I'm sure others. I looked in the wizard code and found that is certain bluetooth MAC preambles are detected such as Mac mice that it blocks the random PIN generator and makes the pin 0000. By adding my devices preamble to this source file and compiling it and installing it from source, i was able to connect right away. This is obviously not optimal. I am proposing either a config file to pull in default pin codes, bluetooth MAC preambles to default the PIN to 0000, or a button option to set your own PIN in the wizard. I would be willing to work on this but first id like some feedback on which direction this is being taken, or if this has been identified and worked on for Jaunty. Some feedback from the experts would be helpful for a newbie to working on a community project as large as Ubuntu.
