Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-utils

It went to 'starting bluetooth services' and then just stopped. No activity for 30 minutes. I then killed the init.d start process and the installation process continued.
The /etc/init.d/bluetooth start doesn't function properly. NB: No bluetooth devices are installed on the system during the upgrade.

ProblemType: Package
Date: Mon Apr 16 13:01:24 2007
ErrorMessage:
ErrorMessage: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Package: bluez-pcmcia-support
SourcePackage: bluez-utils

If you open a command line window and type:

sudo apt-get update
[enter your password]

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

What is the output after the second command and does blue-tooth work after that?

Hi Scott,

It continues to block at 'Starting bluetooth services'.
I put in a set -x in the bluetooth file and I saw that it keeps on
blocking at this command, both with the stop and the start command.

I also edited the file to put an exit 0 at the start, to be able to do a
full update + dist-upgrade. That went fine as long as the exit 0 was in
the file. After the dist-upgrade, when I removed the exit 0, below
command (From within init.d/bluetooth) got stuck again.

/usr/sbin/hid2hci --tohci

It also doesn't start up at system startup, but at least it doesn't
block the system from starting. After startup the bluetooth start is
still in the ps -ef list.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Steven.

If I remember correctly, when you get an error like ErrorMessage: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured, there is a message telling what packages are invovled. That's what I need to understand. Perhaps try

sudo aptitude dist-upgrade

I'm virtually certain it will tell you where the problems are.

Hi Scott,

Everything is configured at the moment and no updates are available.
The bluetooth start problem still exists.

Furthermore I also have a problem booting to the new kernel - it doesn't
recognize my usb RAID5 array (3 separate USB disks) and doesn't seem to
be able to mount my IDE RAID5 array, which causes boot problems. That
still works if I boot to an older kernel (2.6.15-28).

Another system which is currently on feisty, also without BT hardware,
has no problem starting/stopping the BT service.

Very weird. If I have time I'll delve deeper into the differences
between the 2 systems. If I find anything I'll let you know.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Steven.
