intrepid regression: bluetooth services without name in tab "Services"

Bug Description

Under the Services tab of Bluetooth Preferences, only the service "Audio Service" has a label. There are 2 more services without any name displayed.

Unchecking these services (including the audio service) does nothing; the checkbox flickers but remains checked.

the bug still occurs in latest version of bluez-gnome in intrepid

I'm seeing the same issue on today's Intrepid.

bluez-gnome 0.25-0ubuntu2
gnome-bluetoot 0.11.0-0ubuntu
libbluetooth2 3.36-1

I've just dropped the machine to single user mode, used "apt-get --purge remove" to remove libbluetooth2, bluez-gnome and gnome-bluetooth, cleared out /var/lib/bluetooth/, rebooted the machine, reinstalled the removed packages, then re-tested under a newly created account. All pairing state etc was lost (as would be expected) but the services tab remained broken. It doesn't look like it's an issue with left-over state.

This worked fine for me in Hardy, so it appears to be an Intrepid regression.

Same problem here: 3 services listed, only the last one has a name ("Audio service"). I messed a little bit with dbus-send:

$ dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.bluez /org/bluez/service_audio org.bluez.Service.GetName
method return sender=:1.110 -> dest=:1.134 reply_serial=2
   string "Audio service"

$ dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.bluez /org/bluez/service_headset org.bluez.Service.GetName
method return sender=:1.110 -> dest=:1.133 reply_serial=2
   string ""

Looks like the bug is not in bluetooth-properties. I didn't investigate anything else yet (and i have about zero knowledge about bluez).

i have also zero knowledge about bluez but I can confirm that this is a regression in intrepid

I have seen this problem in desktop with English language also. So the problem is neither language specific nor it is UI specific as even dbus query is giving problem.

On a side note, it might be related to the services being split out of main package. Currently only bluez-audio is in main and installed by default. bluez-input, bluez-network, bluez-serial are in universe.

It seems to be fixed in version 0.28 (latest for bluez 3.x).
I build this package in my ppa (https://launchpad.net/~bmillemathias/+archive)

Cheers

We were planning to update this package today. But we had different plans.

Since you have already created the package we would like to ask a few things if it is not too much trouble.
1. Can you please base your package on the one available in Debian unstable, 0.27-1? It will be a merge + update.
2. Have you verified the hildon patch works? Didn't you need to refresh it?

I am subscribing Emmet Hikory to this bug who is also interested in getting this package updated.

I'll try to look how to do the merge this afternoon, but for the moment at least I can say I didn't touch the hildon patch, but it was applied without trouble

after installing the patched packages I have no more unnamed services, but I only have "Audio services" listed.

Is this normal? I expected to see at least "input services" (for my bluetooth mouse :( ) and probably something mode, if I remember well what I had before upgrading to intrepid.

it seems the restart of bluetooth daemon necessary to have the new bluetooth services listed.
I didn't had bluez-input before, I installed it and it was not listed, I restarted bluetooth, and the service was listed then after.

could you confirm on your side?

great, confirmed: "input service" is now listed after a restart

Yeah, I filed a bug (and patch) about that:

I don't think that the package of Baptiste is correct.
Here I attach both screenshots (before and after).

Yes, it corrects the main bug: there are no longer empty rows.
But where is the Status column and those checkbox's???
