Bug Description

While performing a system upgrade this crash occured. I'm not sure why it happened but there seem to be other related problems. For example, DropBox just stopped functioning. At least, I can't open my dropbox folder. So it seems like this bug report may not be the root cause of the troubles. On reboot the system seems to function fine. Dropbox is working again, too. Is there a simple way to attempt to re-do this part of the upgrade process?

I attempted reinstalling the blcr-dkms package via aptitude:

[code]
sudo aptitude reinstall blcr-dkms

In the make log, it seems like there's an argument being passed to the ?compiler? ?linker? that it does not like. Summary:

[code]checking the name lister (/usr/bin/nm -B) interface... (cached) BSD nm
configure: error: --with-linux argument '3.2.0-24-generic' is neither a kernel version string nor a full path

But I'll attach the entire make.log for blcr.

blcr-dkms does simply not work with 3.X kernels and its non trivial to fix, the newest kernel supported is 2.6.38.
it is a pretty specialized package, you can probably just remove it.

this certainly has nothing to do with your dropbox issue.

Hi Julian,

Thanks, I have no idea why it's installed on my computer.

Something strange seems to be happening on my system and it's not clear
what the trigger is. Right now "dash" won't pop up. The icon is there in
Gnome, but pressing it doesn't do much. So I thought I'd check for
problems with my install. Running aptitude full-upgrade gives:

sudo aptitude full-upgrade
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  evolution{a}
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libgnome-desktop-2-17{u}
The following packages will be upgraded:
  evolution-common evolution-indicator evolution-plugins
3 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 2,223 kB of archives. After unpacking 8,973 kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 language-support-translations-en : Depends: evolution-documentation-en
which is a virtual package.
open: 173; closed: 2652; defer: 83; conflict: 202

So it looks like there's some genuine problems that are bigger than my bug
report. I'm not so sure where the heart of the problem is, though!
