Cannot compile after upgrading binutils to 2.15-5ubuntu2.1 from hoary-security/main

Bug #17535 reported by Yuval Tanny

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
binutils (Ubuntu)
Fix Released
Critical

Bug Description

$ cat a.c
int main()
{
        return 0;
}
$ gcc a.c
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.5/../../../crt1.o: file not recognized: File
format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Same with gcc-3.3 and gcc-4.0 and g++-*.
After (force) installing debian's binutils, it works as usual. After (force)
installing ubuntu's binutils again I can't compile again.

Is it just me?

Thanks!
