i have the same problem. My friend suggested that the error might be because of the differences in python-gtk and python packages because python-gtk is version 2.4 while python is version 2.5. So, I tried to relink /usr/bin/python back to /usr/bin/python2.4 and that solved the problem. You will need to change this back to /usr/bin/python2.5 when python-gtk 2.5 is released.
