Bug Description

Binary package hint: beagle

When searching with beagle-search and with kerry and get emails as results their subject and sender is not displayed. It only reads Kein Betreff (No Subject) and Unbekannte Person (Unknown Person) in Kerry. I get a similar result with beagle-search. I am using a disconnected imap account in kmail.

Can you please confirm that after wiping your index this is still an issue? There was a problem with a kmail file format change, but I believe it was fixed some time ago, however, Gutsy was way behind the beagle curve for a little bit.

If your really ambitious, a screenshot of beagle-search and then a screenshot of the offending e-mail would be great.

It seems that the problem still exists. I deleted ~/.beagle, purged all beagle packages and reinstalled them.

Can you attach the output of
$ beagle-query --verbose amazon

The output will be quite large, so redirect it to a file and attach the file. Just cross check that the same query is giving "no subject/no sender" in beagle-search.

Hi.

I created the requested output. I also tried to remove ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc and ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail but had no luck. Then I installed Kubuntu 7.10 (Desktop-Ed.) from scratch in Virtual Box and it had the same problem there.

Aha ... you have a non-english language. There was a known issue with languages using "," as a decimal separator - there is a ubuntu update waiting to be approved to fix this,

Then there is a separate issue (beagle-search isnt affected by the locale problem but kerry is). Somehow your email dont seem to have some crucial information ... possibly our email filter is having some problems. Can you attach any kmail email file ? e.g.
file:///home/schmidt/.kde/share/apps/kmail/dimap/.1725759156.directory/.Finanzen.directory/Bestellungen/cur/1191823656.13884.z1XX2:2,S
file:///home/schmidt/.kde/share/apps/kmail/dimap/.1725759156.directory/Spamverdacht/cur/1190008426.8665.Vm9xj:2,S
(or any file appearing as Uri:file:///home/schmidt/.kde/share/apps/kmail/dimap/.1725759156.directory/... in the above attached log file - any one file will do).

I works correctly on my machine :( EMails are extracted using
gmime-sharp (gmime-cil depending on how it is packaged) which depends
on gmime. So, there could be some problem there. One more check, can
you send me the output of
$ beagle-extract-content --mimetype=message/rfc822
"/path/to/1190008426.8665.Vm9xj:2,S"

We have a hit here. A library is missing:

System.DllNotFoundException: libgmime-2.0.so.2.2.10

Since it also happens on a freshly installed Kubuntu 7.10 there seems to be missing dependency. Doing a

sudo aptitude install libgmime2

fixed the problem. Beagle is only dependend on libgmime2.2-cil. Possibly libgmime2 is installed per default on Ubuntu and so the problem does not appear there.

Shouldn't libgmime2.2-cil depend on libgmime2 ? Can you take this up with libgmime2-cil people ... if there is a dependency problem that should be resolved urgently. There are other programs that depend on libgmime2-cil.

this bug is still a problem and seems not being solved. beagle wouldn't index neither kmail nor thunderbird without having libgmime2 installed. I'm running kubuntu 7.10 - without this lib, beagle is almost useless.

This really depends on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gmime2.2/+bug/157127
How do you add dependson bug number in launchpad ?
