Me too ;-)

Broadcom STA stopped working after doing a dist-upgrade from Maverick to Natty alpha-3.

Symptoms identical.

I was able to solve this problem by installing bcmwl-kernel-source from maverick repository.

On my laptop it shows "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" although it's on, and led is turned on.

Marking as incomplete, at least until someone can attach enough details to prove this is not a duplicate of one of the other bugs logged against bcmwl.

Run this command (in a terminal):
    apport-collect 712053

That should collect the required information, and open your browser. You then log in and it automatically uploads/attaches the details to this bug, I believe.

Also, can you get to Connection Information in Network Manager? If so, what does it show next to "Driver:" ?

Sorry, of course apport-collect only works while you have internet connectivity...

Try these commands (in a Terminal), and then copy the output:
    1. nm-tool | grep Driver
    2. lspci | grep Network
    3. dpkg -s bcmwl-kernel-source | grep Version

This seems similar to bug #732677. The difference is that you have bcmwl 5.60, and I think natty is meant to use 5.100. I believe the differences are simply due to the fact that you installed natty from a very early pre-release daily live image.

It's likely if you do a clean natty install from a more mature natty image (say beta-1, or tomorrow's beta-2), then you will end up with brcmwl 5.100. In the best case, wireless will work. In the worst case, this bug then becomes a duplicate of #732677. Sorry to not be more helpful.

referring to username: Reiger in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1714723 ....
i tried "rfkill list" and "sudo rfkill unblock $device_number_as_seen_on_list".
it worked in a SNAP....... the LED light came back........ the "wireless is disabled by hardware switch" disappeared........ and the laptop connected to internet IMMEDIATELY......... Dell Vostro 1500.
But, upon restart, it went back to the previous state......... so everytime i reboot, i have to write "rfkill list" and "sudo rfkill unblock $device_number_as_seen_on_list"

Same Issue here, with fresh install of 11.10.

Tried all the solutions on this post - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx I have a dell latitude d530, with broadcom bcm4311. rfkill list shows that the device is not blocked, and on aditional drivers the broadcom driver says its active, but removing and reinstalling it dont change anything.
