Hello,

Wireless card:Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
After the Ubuntu 9.10 installation, while i installed the proprietary driver by the Hardware drivers window, my system crashes, X-server freezes and i had to reboot my laptop.
At this moment i used firefox on ubuntu website by the Ethernet connection.
However the driver has been installed.

Same thing Dell Latitude D630 (BCM4311). I switched back to the B43 driver and have yet to have a crash since.

Does this only affect amd64 or is anyone using i386 with the same crash?

I am having this problem with my Inspiron 1545 Laptop. Even though it is Linux Mint 8 RC1, it is doing the same thing as Ubuntu 9.10 when I first got it.

I have a dell studio hybrid (x386) and been running 8.10 with no problems. Upgraded to 9.10 and tried to install the broadcom driver. It hung the system had to use the big button. Then the system was broken .. could not boot! I am very very sad over this performance of ubuntu system???

I'm not sure if I have the same problem, as my system did not crash immediately after enabling the sta driver. Rather, it appears to work perfectly. However I have been having frequent kernel panics, which I am thinking more and more are relating the the wireless driver, as they seem to happen only when using wireless and most frequently during periods of high Internet access (downloading large files, etc.). As the bcmwl module is the only thing that is in kernel-space and would be affected by higher periods of internet use. Its definitely a ghost of a bug I've been chasing, but it has affected multiple installations of Karmic on this laptop (Dell Latitude D630). I'm going to try compiling the driver myself as it looks like broadcom released a new version on 9/17 which may have not made it into Karmic...
