Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1317604/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-reported-upstream'.

Also, can you see if this issue still exists with the latest mainline kernel:

yes, this issue still exists with the latest mainline kernel, 3.15-rc4.
It occurs both under lubuntu-14.10 and -14.04.

further findings:
bug occurs with 3.15.0-0.1 for wifi card bcm 4312 (driver wl).
However, also no wifi with 3.15.0-0.1 in lubuntu-14.04 using bcm 4309.

Wifi works with 3.14.2 in both cases.

In both situations, network can, under 3.15.0-0.1, be accessed via cable, though.

First off, the mainline builds are not supported. They are provided only for testing purposed. You should confirm that the problem also exists with the official kernel.

Since you're using the wl driver though the problem is most likely not in the kernel itself but in that driver. You should still test against the official kernel since the Ubuntu wl driver probably hasn't been tested with mainline builds, but I'm going to go ahead and change this report to be against bcmwl-kernel-source.

your remark: "Since you're using the wl driver though the problem is most likely not in the kernel itself but in that driver"

As I mention in #7, I have also no wifi (under kernel 3.15 ) with the wifi card bcm 4309 (which does not use the wl driver, but b43-fw-cutter). Thus, the wifi problem is possibly not only a bcmwl-kernel-source problem.
Thus, this bug report may not necessarily be a duplicate of #1307744.
