Bug Description

I tried to install the Broadcom STA source version of the Broadcom drivers, by running...
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

The install progresses well and appears to be fine, until, during the build process, the attempt to...
modprobe wl
...which takes place after DKMS has built the module hangs indefinitely, requiring a kill, even if b43 and ssb are unloaded. Then if you inspect lsmod the wl module appears to be there but cannot be removed, despite having no other modules using it. No network behaviour is visible within network manager.

An identical issue remains even after a full reboot at this point.

If you remove the blacklisted entries from /etc/modprobe.d it's possible to go back and install both b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43-installer and this provides functional wireless, but the driver is unable to accept power management instructions, which is why I'm trying to get the newer, allegedly more stable, source to work.
