There are two problems with the command_not_found_handle hook in /etc/bash.bashrc:
• If command-not-found is uninstalled but command-not-found-data remains installed, then bad commands yield a mysterious python error:
anders@balanced-tree:~$ badcommand
/usr/bin/python: can't find '__main__.py' in '/usr/share/command-not-found'
anders@balanced-tree:~$
because /usr/share/command-not-found is an executable directory, instead of an executable Python script that the function seems to be expecting.
• If both packages are uninstalled but a shell remains open from when one of them was installed, then bad commands yield no error message at all:
