Bug Description

Reproducible on xubuntu 16.04 x86_64 (reproduced on two machines I tried). Steps to reproduce:

export PS1="\e[1;32m\u@$HOSTNAME \t \$()\e[1;36m\$(sleep 1)\e[m\n\w>"
Press enter
wait
Press enter
Ctrl-C
Press enter

bash will crash. My PS1 line calls (and forks) a little shell script to report a status I want to see. It seems to be specific to bash on 16.04
