Bug Description

Binary package hint: base-installer

The following just made my father pull his hair off:

If the user provides "Günther" as his name, the installer makes "gunther" the username. This is counter intuitive and it should be "guenther" instead.

"ä" should be "ae", "ö" should be "oe" respectively.

No need for anyone to pull anyone's hair out - you can just change the default. While we may make some improvements to the defaults in future, I think it's unlikely that we'll always be able to get this right for everyone in all languages - the correct rules to use vary quite a bit, and of course some people have names that don't originate in the language they speak!

affects: base-installer (Ubuntu) → user-setup (Ubuntu)
Changed in user-setup (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Triaged
