Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

Since banshee was unable to reread an existing library, i delete whole config and tried to re-read the complete mp3 library with 14k files in it. Banshee crawls up to 189/14000 and stops then, now i have 189 files and all of them are 3 times in the library.

Comment: The 14k library was created from earlier versions of banshee, the tags has formed the filename/folder structure.

Please quit banshee, start it up with "banshee --debug" in a terminal, try importing again, and then posting the output here.

This bug exist on different players while reading the same library, 675270, 676206, 667783. Do they use the same routines to read the library?
Affected are songs and folders that get the tag2filename procedere from banshee. Files and folders that carry ugly filename chars theirafter....

"What's up"
"Snow'in under my skin"
"Hall & Oates"
"Indestructible (instrumental)"

Most of them are inserted 5 times from scratch with all players.

I disabled the tag2filename option now and startet to clean up the filenames, with 14k of songs this will be a hard and long term job.

Just renamed the banshee.db and started a new import from scratch. Result: 14500 files are seen by banshee, up to 8000 was readed then the job ends and wont import more by restart. Lots of music is missing in the banshee library, but still exist on the drive. If i import an album that is already on the disc but not in banshee i get (1) files. Shot the appended screenshot for you.

Got 1.9.3 from ppa for maverick, sorry that i cannot compile or upgrade my production computers to something in unstable alpha phase. On my natty alpha notebook i only got 1.9.3 too.
Okay first i checked with fslint the number of files in the database. Got 15551 files there, completely removed the banshee.db to start from scratch with "reload all". This process counts at the right up to 15551, left side did a slow countup (30mins) to 15551. Then the process was finished and i have only 1204 songs in my library, i dont know what happens to the other songs. Only 361 artists from over 1500 artists are listed in the database.

Another quirk was found, in the settings i have only the upper two options for filehandling activated. Banshee took this settings to dupe lots of files with every "reload musicfolder". The option told "copy while import to musicfolder" but reload all is no import. And "write metadata" should not include a file duping. As you can see, i have reload musicfolder at 18:21, next at 19:17 and the third at 20:43. This is the result at the drive.....
