Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

Hi,

Upon hearing that Banshee would be the default music player in Natty, I installed it to try it out. However, it seems to be missing more than half of my music collection: whereas Rhythmbox shows 994 songs, Banshee only shows 443 (so it's missing more than a half!) Even when I tell it to import a folder where I know are mp3 files it failed to detect, it still won't find them.

Is this a known bug? Is there something I can do about it?

No, it's not a known bug. Could you provide some samples of the mp3s it has
failed to detect, as well as the output of "banshee --debug" in a terminal when
trying to import these files?

Also, do these files get imported if you select "Import file" and select them
individually rather than scanning a directory?

Hi Chow, apparently Banshee doesn't even see the files. I'm attaching what I get when trying to import them: you see how the files appear in Nautilus, but the same folder appears empty when I try to import the individual files in Banshee. Therefore it's impossible to try to import them, and to attach a result of --debug.

Should I attach one of the mp3 files to the bug, right here?

Apparently in the screenshot I sent Nautilus and Banshee don't show the same folder. My mistake. Still, that's what I get when trying to import.

So you mean that Banshee sees the files, but when you try to import them
individually it doesn't get imported? And nothing appears in the terminal? Could
you attach at least one of those mp3s here please?

I'm attaching one of the mp3 files that Banshe doesn't see, but really, there are hundreds of them.

What I meant is Nautilus sees the files, Totem plays them, but Banshee doesn't see them. I can import the containing folder but it has no results, and if I try to import the individual files the folder appears as if it were empty (as shown in my previous screenshot).

Alright, after I checked the link to the file I uploaded I noticed that the file lacks the .mp3 extension, and that's why Banshee can't see it. Rhythmbox could see it though, that's why the problem had gone unnoticed.

Okay, thanks. I think that confirms what we're looking for.

I have this problem with natty with all patches as of 03/26. I can browse the files and play them with banshee, but half of the titles are missing in the collection. Rhythmbox shows all songs.
