Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

Banshee ought to ship in Ubuntu with a standard configuration - see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoundMenu#Banshee

Important points:
- No panel icon (both Application Indicator and Notification Area Icon should be disabled by default)
- Sound menu integration enabled by default (well almost: the option should be off by default for a new user account, but should turn itself on automatically when you first play something or add items to the music library)
- Banshee should be altered to comply with the standard behavior: it should keep playing if closed while playing, it should exit if closed while not playing, and it should restore location and other state on relaunching.

Doesn't it do this already? The "banshee" package recommends
"banshee-extension-suondmenu", which will cause the extension to be
automatically enabled when starting Banshee the first time.

audio indicator works fine for me with 1.8.0 release, you should try to install right extensions and enable it, and when you tried to close Banshee is minimized correctly too. any way, I think you should fill a new report for each item that you required (if is not implemented of course).

My testing (on a clean install) showed that after installing Banshe through the Software Centre:
 - You get a notification panel icon (there should be no notification icon, or indicator applet - only the sound menu enabled)
 - Banshee always closes to panel (it should only do so when music is playing, if music is not playing it should close)

Seeing as Banshee is going to be the default music player in 11.04 it is important we get this right "out of the box" (without installing extra plugins, etc). I have no doubt we'll get it sorted. I imagine this will all be looked at by the Banshee upstream developers actually, seeing as their stated focus for the next six months is great Ubuntu integration.

for the record:

- Sound menu integration enabled by default (well almost: the option should be off by default for a new user account, but should turn itself on automatically when you first play something or add items to the music library)

this is the default behaviour in latest release of Ubuntu Natty

- Banshee should be altered to comply with the standard behavior: it should keep playing if closed while playing, it should exit if closed while not playing, and it should restore location and other state on relaunching.

some of those are already working in that way (at least with 1.9.1 release in Natty)
