Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, the information
provided with this bug report is insufficient to debug the problem.

I have noticed you're using version 1.6.0, which is outdated, Please
enable "lucid-updates" using the Updates tab in
System->Administration->Software Sources and install Banshee 1.6.1 from
there.

If this bug still occurs after upgrading to 1.6.1, then please perform
the following:
1. Run "banshee --debug" in a terminal.
2. Wait for Banshee to hang.
3. Open a new terminal, and run "killall -SIGQUIT banshee-1". This
should cause Banshee to dump a stack trace and where it's stuck on
   the original terminal.
4. Copy all the output from the terminal Banshee is running on into a
   file and attach it here.

Hello,

I tried your method but I could not kill it with SIGQUIT.
So I send you the lines when I launch it from a terminal.

Thank you for your help.

The killall command earlier is not supposed to kill Banshee -- it's
supposed to make Banshee dump out a whole bunch of stack traces onto the
terminal, which it did. Could you try installing the "banshee-dbg"
package and attempting those steps again, please? That would result in a
more useful stack trace (with file names and line numbers, etc) to
accelerate debugging.

Thanks, but I just realized that you are using Banshee 1.6.0-1 which is
outdated. Could you try checking if you still see this problem in
1.6.1-1~lucid1, which is in lucid-updates (if not enabled, please enable it in
System->Administration->Software Sources->Updates)?

Okay, it looks like a database issue. Could you attach your banshee.db (found in
~/.config/banshee-1) here please?

Also, when Banshee is hanging, could you check (using the System Monitor found
in System->Administration) whether Banshee is using 100% or 0 CPU? Thanks.

To solve my problem, I have to erase all my local banshee config files:

.config/banshee-1
.gconf/apps/banshee-1
.cache/banshee-1
.cache/media-art

Then:

apt-get remove --purge banschee

and

apt-get install banshee

banshee-community-extensions banshee-extension-lyrics
banshee-dbg banshee-extension-magnatune
banshee-extension-alarm banshee-extension-mirage
banshee-extension-appindicator banshee-extension-radiostationfetcher
banshee-extension-awn banshee-extensions-common
banshee-extension-coverwallpaper banshee-extension-streamrecorder
banshee-extension-lcd banshee-extension-ubuntuonemusicstore
banshee-extension-lirc banshee-meego

I launched banshee, always the grey window.
I restart the computer, Banshee's come back.

It's not the first time this bug happens on my computer.
Each time I purge/reinstall banshee, removed all banshee related file
and restart the computer.

In fact, before this bug happen (grey window only mode), the covers
wallpaper and the song were not sync and "unknown albums" had a cover
of...madonna.
I think change in the media-art directory could produce my bug...
