banshee lirc extension doesn't work

I installed and enabled the lirc plugin for Banshee but it doesn't work.
If I start banshee in a terminal I get the following error.

I can confirm this bug is still present in natty 11.04.

To confirm that it is the case, please install the liblircclient-dev package and see if that solves the issue.
