some applications are not showing any titles in unity menu bar

Some applications when active do not put anything in the menubar, and holding alt does not show their menus even though hitting F10 will. Debugging this with unity peeps they got me to look at the dbus information, at org.ayatana.bamf, specifically at some application entries. I have one of those which has not DesktopFile associated with it. This is not normal apparently.

Hi Andy, can you share details for that application? The absence of a desktop file should not prevent it from being tracked by bamf.

The application was weechat, but from an application which was in fact started from a desktop file. It seems the desktop file mapping was lost too.

In the case of this weechat application: is there an icon displayed in the launcher bar? in the alt-switcher?

I only have a curses version of weechat here: do you have a wrapper for it, or do you use the QT front-end?
