Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

I've tried to install the bacula-directory-mysql package on lucid and it worked as expected. Could you outline which steps you've taken to install the package?

I've never done this before, so I hope I'm using the forum correctly.

I have the same scenario Chris, but I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10. Now I'm not able to install any other packages as this failed installation is retried with every other install I do. Was there an update to the bacula-director-mysql package to correct this? Is there a work around by setting up the database and user in mysql before installing Bacula Director?

Hello Chris...
I cannot tell how much I appreciate your willingness to give this a look with me!! I've been in network technologies since 1992, but I'm just starting with Linux.

I have attached a txt file of the complete output from my attempt to install Bacula. Maybe that will help you help ME to identify where the problem is..

Thanks so MUCH!!

That is your problem. It is already reported as bug #583044 ("Looks like you have an error in your /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf that prevents it from starting up. If you can't fix that, I'd suggest you purge the existing configuration completely (sudo apt-get purge bacula-director-common bacula-director-mysql) and reinstall.")
