upon running bat from bacula-console-qt there still seems to be something missing as it can not connect to the director service on port 9101.

Hi Meaje,
I see in your log that you installed, removed and reinstalled bacula.
Likely for the issues that you have seen and reported here.

If you purge all old pieces and then reinstall - do you still get no service running?:
apt remove --purge bacula*
apt install bacula-console-qt bacula

I tried locally and I got:
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9101 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 121 377597 4835/bacula-dir
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9102 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 0 373657 4005/bacula-fd
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9103 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 121 379082 5015/bacula-sd

If not, what is the output of all the related services status?:
$ systemctl status bacula-director bacula-fd bacula-sd
