Thanks for the information - this problem is reported quite often - it is doe to some library-loadinging problems. Using gcj will fix the problem.

Using upstream will fix your problem, till the package is fixed.

Using Feisty (herd4) with restricted-extra's installed (which includes Java)

It works without problems. Please, dear packaging people, keep it like this ;-)

Hello Linux-users,

I am very new to ubuntu, at the moment using ubuntu 7.10 gutsy. I installed azureus from synaptic and when I click on the shortcut it doesn't start. I followed the pieces of advice given and I have a few questions. What is upstream and gcj? When I type sudo azureus I receive this:

sudo azureus
Looking for and picking a preferred Java runtime
Use environment AZUREUS_JAVA to override
Using Java: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-icedtea/jre/bin/java
The program 'SWT' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 356 error_code 11 request_code 148 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Any ideas? Thanks for all comments.

@oberst
your problem is due to a bad update for the xserver-xorg-core package: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/183969/comments/11

now it should have been fixed, so just update your ubuntu to install the new version of that package:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

then retry to open azureus :)
