Bug Description

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

avant-window-navigator:
  Installed: 0.3.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.3.2-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.3.2-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I right-click an application and select Move to another workspace, so I expect the window to appear in the selected workspace.
Instead the selected window disappears and can neither be selected via ALT-TAB.

I've also noticed that Move to another workspace always considers to be on workspace 1.

Which window manager are you using?

I'm using Gnome as window manager. In previous versions of Ubuntu I never had such problems.
In fact the application is not killed, it just disappears from the avant-window-manager. I already removed the default task bar with open applications, so I can't see my application anymore when moving it to another desktop.
Another symptom is that the awn always thinks that I'm on Desktop 1 even when I'm 100% sure that I'm on another desktop.

So, I presume that "Desktop Effects" are enabled? This probably means that your window manager is compiz (instead of the stock GNOME window manager, Metacity). Compiz and Metacity handle multiple desktops differently at an architectural level - this might be the reason that it's not working as expected. I'm going to ask one of the Awn developers who has a better grasp of how multiple desktops work in different window managers to comment.

While Compiz, technically speaking, normally is configured with a single workspace with a viewport the underlying libraries (libwnck) normally have no issues more or less transparently dealing with this configuration.

At this point my best guess is that Compiz may have been configured with multiple Desktops. If you have reconfigured Compiz in any way check to make sure "Number of Desktops" is 1. "Horizontal Virtual Size" and "Vertical Virtual Size" can be greater than 1 without issue.

Is anyone else using Jaunty able to duplicate this behaviour?

Yes I do use Compiz. My issue is solved with setting the number of desktops to 1.

Setting to "Invalid", as the problem is in Compiz, not Awn.

Changed in avant-window-navigator (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
