Bug Description

Please remove autopano-sift from the Ubuntu repository, at least for Raring. It is dead upstream (the homepage doesn't even resolve anymore), and it has been superceded by autopano-sift-c, which was requested in Bug 323836 but then determined obsolete as well.

It seems like you removed autopano-sift and there is NO autopano-sift-c alternative in any of the standard repositories. Now how are we supposed to stich our panoramas? All by hand? Or am I missing some hidden configuration to get this alternative from the repositories?

It appears that hugin now includes this functionality.

You mean the "align_image_stack" function that on a couple of almost identical pictures finds only 3 matching points? In comparison, a naive Harris Corner Detector we made at the university with Matlab is much more powerful... If you are talking about the other 4-5 tools that Hugin claims to support, none of them is in the repository.

Anyways, it's ok to install the autopano-sift-c package from the old version of the Hugin PPA, but the fact that at the moment Hugin is seriously broken by decision of who mantains the repositories should at least be written in the package description.

PS: I forgot to point out a thing... as you probably know it takes 8 points to estimate an homography, hence the align_image_stack has a so low recognition level that it's plain useless.

Lazza is right. This issue is not fixed. It is more broken than before.

I was able to use a deb from here.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/+package/autopano-sift

Kinda defeats the purpose of switching to autopano-sift-c

By the way this bug should be changed to "Opinion".

Logan, an honest question for you... are you actually a Hugin user or you just requested the removal of autopano without checking what would be broken with this decision?
